Tulsi Basil from Costa Rica

Considered mystical, the herb symbolizes protection, health and fertility, and is said to have been the favorite plant of the god Krishna

Tulsi - a herb with many names; healing royal herb, Indian basil or also Thai basil - they all describe a plant originating from Asia, which is now known in many cultures as an effective remedy. Claimed as a true 'elixir of life', Holy Basil offers powerful healing properties that Ayurvedic medicine utilizes in the prevention and treatment of various imbalances. As one of the best herbal adaptogens, its particular strength is to make people more resilient to stressful situations. Thus, it can holistically help the organism to relax and remain in a balanced state from which to act with full strength and focus. Considered mystical, the herb symbolizes protection, health and fertility and is said to have been the favorite plant of the god Krishna. In India, it is still highly praised today, especially by women. Whether as a decoration around the neck, planted in the ground next to the house entrance or as a spicy refinement in the kitchen - the plant has been revered here in all its forms for over 5000 years.

Controlled organic regenerative cultivation and a gentle manufacturing process enable the premium nutritional profile and fresh flavor intensity of our Tulsi Basil. Through their special cultivation process in fruity green Costa Rica, industry pioneer Ric and his team are setting new standards of quality and sustainability in the medicinal herb segment on a global scale. In the midst of beautiful and diverse nature, characterized by immense vitality and biodiversity like in hardly any other place, they are committed to a worldwide change of consciousness in the name of the co-evolution of man and nature with their strong orientation towards social-ecological values.

Tulasi Devi - the incomparable goddess of protection

According to legend, the Tulsi Basil plant is inhabited by the goddess Tulasi Devi, who has the task of protecting people on a physical as well as spiritual level. The term Tulsi comes from Sanskrit and means 'The Incomparable'. The goddess is considered a worshipper of the god Vishnu, to whom this plant is dedicated. Vishnu is considered in Hinduism as the god of rituals and takes the function of the preserving and righteous. Thus, the royal herb has always been part of sacred ceremonies. It is said that it can unfold the heart and provide protection to devote to the soft, inner core. Furthermore, Tulsi can help to open the mind to gain spiritual insight and clarity about one's own destiny.

Organic regenerative cultivation in one of THE world's biodiversity hotspots.

Indian basil, known in botany as Ocimum sanctum or Ocimum tenuiflorum, is a small herbaceous plant native to tropical and subtropical Asia and a member of the mint family.

It can grow up to a meter tall and is studded with delicate green leaves that visually resemble a mix of conventional basil and mint. Its purple flowers pile up on top of each other and tower high towards the sky.

There are three different types of Tulsi: Krishna Tulsi, wild Vana Tulsi, and Rama Tulsi, from which our powder is made. Compared to the other varieties, which have a stronger pepper note as well as a lemony aroma, Rama Tulsi convinces with an aromatic, clove-like scent and a pleasant, sweet-mild taste.

We source our Holy Basil from Ric's Farm in Costa Rica, near the Pacific coastal town of Uvita. The country is characterized by an incredible fertility and richness, which is reflected in almost endless shades of green and countless species of animals and plants - a Garden of Eden for all botanists and nature lovers.

Driven to create a global movement of positive change and establish new standards of quality in the industry, he and his team are dedicated to the organic regenerative cultivation of diverse precious medicinal plants on approximately 43 hectares of land here. The richness of the soil, the high rainfall rate, and the opportunity to work and learn in an intact and exceedingly vital ecosystem were key drivers for the conscious decision to settle here and establish a farm.

The renunciation of any additives of a chemical nature, the conscious selection of natural cultivation aids as well as the constant thought of the reduction of waste materials characterize the daily thinking and actions of the team. For a long time Ric has been particularly interested in the dynamic relationship between man and the environment and the potential that nature provides for our physical and psychological health as well as for our spiritual (consciousness) development (whether through the observation of natural principles of nature or through the inner experience of psychoactive agents). A matter that he wants to understand more and more through direct experience and pass on through his active initiative in educational projects. For more info on Ric and his farm, click here..

After the medicinal and spice plants are harvested, Ric and his team carefully process them. First, the plant components used (here, the entire herb) enter a processing plant, where they are washed and inspected. Then they enter a cutting machine and are processed into fine powder. After sterilization, the powder is collected in containers and dried before finally undergoing a final quality test and then being released for consumption. The fact that Holy Basil is not heated during the entire production process and that a cold water cooler is used even for the grinding process means that all the nutrients in the bulb can be retained.

One of the most powerful plant adaptogens

Holy Basil contains various significant active ingredients such as flavonoids and tannins.
It also contains valuable essential oils with the main component eugenol contained therein, which gives the spicy herb an aromatic scent of clove. Other components are essential fatty acids, beta-carotene, calcium, zinc, magnesium, iron and vitamins A and C.

Tulsi Basil herb is primarily known for its antispasmodic, sedative and digestive effects on the gastrointestinal tract. As one of the most powerful herbal adaptogens, it makes the organism more resilient and adaptable to stressful situations. Tulsi helps keep cortisol levels, which rise during stress, at a normal level and promotes a sense of relaxation and well-being on a physical and mental level.

In the teachings of Ayurveda, Holy Basil has played an important role for thousands of years; it is said to have a balancing effect on the doshas (constitutions), including in particular excessive Vata and Kapha. In addition, the so-called elixir of life is said to give a long and healthy life. In this context, the plant is used for a wide variety of disease symptoms. These include all inflammatory diseases, coughs, fevers, respiratory problems, headaches and sore throats, heart problems, complaints in the gastrointestinal tract and infections in the oral cavity. Furthermore, it can be used for external application for insect bites and for wound healing.

By improving blood sugar and blood lipid levels, as well as contributing to the reduction of cholesterol and blood pressure, an overall positive effect of Tulsi herb on the cardiovascular system can be deduced.

In addition, Holy Basil is said to strengthen the nervous system and calm mental tension, providing relief from anxiety, depression, and panic attacks. Furthermore, it can provide mental clarity and increase cognitive performance.

With its antibacterial power, Tulsi is excellent for preventing respiratory infections and alleviating symptoms that already occur. By dissolving stuck mucus, the respiratory tract is freed, so that with each breath can draw from the full potential of prana (life force).

Brew your own life elixir

When used in the kitchen, there are many uses for our sacred basil. While most people in Europe may initially associate the term 'tulsi' with tea, this application alone would severely limit the culinary potential of the medicinal plant.

Our Tulsi Basil can be used like conventional basil as a spice and to refine any dish. Already in the sole use it sets every dish in scene, but also in combination with other spices such as ginger, coriander, cumin or chili it presents itself elegantly. Our tulsi harmonizes particularly well with pasta sauces, vegetable and rice dishes, stews and salads. However, in order not to impair taste and effect, the basil should not be heated too much. It is best stirred into the sauce or sprinkled over the finished dish just before eating. Furthermore, the herb also gives cold dishes and drinks such as salads and smoothies a delicate aroma.

Want to reap the maximum health benefits of Holy Basil and brew your own sacred elixir of life? Then go for it! All you need is our Tulsi Basil powder, hot (not boiling) water and other flavors of your choice. Our fresh ginger powder, for example, is a particularly melodic addition, but other superfoods and spices can also be perfectly complemented, depending on your taste preferences and desired effects. To prepare, simply add all ingredients to hot water and let the brew steep for about 5 minutes on low heat. For strong effectiveness, it is recommended to take the basil for a longer period of at least 3 days.

… keep calm and lift your spirit!
