Rapé
Rapé: Traditional remedy of indigenous cultures
Rapé - a powerful plant remedy from the Amazon rainforest that has been used by indigenous peoples for centuries. It is a blend of tobacco and other medicinal plants used for spiritual cleansing and deep connection to nature and to oneself. At Suyana, we offer you carefully selected, traditionally made rapé, produced in direct, fair partnerships with indigenous communities. This allows you not only to experience the power of the plants, but also to support a respectful and sustainable exchange with the people who preserve this knowledge for generations.
What is Rapé?
Rapé (pronounced "Ha-peh") is a powdered mixture of various medicinal plants, usually based on tobacco (Nicotiana rustica), which is enriched with other powerful plants, ashes and sometimes resins. Each tribe has its own unique Rapé blend, which varies depending on the application and intention. This unique composition is based on traditional knowledge that has been passed down through many generations.
Unlike commercial tobacco, rapé is not smoked but ingested through the nose. The intake usually takes place in a conscious, ritual process known as "tepi". The shaman or your companion blows the powdered rapé through a special tepi tube directly into your nostril. It is said that this process establishes a direct connection with the spirit of the plant and can thus enable profound experiences. The ritual can vary depending on tradition and intensity - you can of course create your very own ritual.
